Tailoring

I will try to keep these as up-to-date as possible.  Please bear with me as I get this page organized.

Costuming Patterns

You might be wondering why I selected the particular patterns that I did.  There are anachronisms, I'll admit.  Certainly blame personal bias: this is my "wish list."  That said, my preferences revolve around certain criteria:

1) Yardage - our ancestors (even the wealthy) did not have the luxury of unlimited volumes of fabric.  Textiles were hand-woven; garments were hand-sewn; and fiber availability was at the mercy of the elements.  I try to stick to reasonable yardage (relative to the class of garment).

2) Traditional fastenings - lacings, drawstrings, simple buckles or frogs = appropriate.  Elastic, zippers, and multiple buttons/buttonholes = too anachronistic even for my taste!

3) Variety of function - what is the purpose of this costume?  Is it for a formal event like a wedding?  Are you manning a booth at a Faire or Games? Or will you be performing a live exhibition complete with equestrian events or martial arts demos?  Seaming is a major deal if you're part of the latter group.  I'm not a big fan of altering patterns if I don't have to!
